Patient Advocacy Day at UCL
On the 17th September, members of the Transcend team were extremely grateful to be invited to a Patient Advocacy Day at the first ever international Clear Cell Sarcoma Workshop, hosted by UCL and the Edward Showler Foundation at the Royal Society of Medicine in London.
The Workshop took place over two days, with the first day allowing patients and patient advocates to meet, exchange experiences, and help guide the direction of future research into Clear Cell Sarcoma. The second day brought together scientists, researchers, and clinicians from the UK, Europe, and the US to discuss their findings and explore approaches to future research, with insights from the first day informing the conversations
Although clear cell sarcoma and round cell sarcomas - the type of sarcoma Jack was diagnosed with - are distinct in their cell appearance, typical locations, and genetic profiles, they share many similarities, including their aggressive nature, potential to metastasize, and the need for specialised, multidisciplinary treatment approaches.
A big thank you goes out to John and Ellie from the Edward Showler Foundation and UCL for putting together such an amazing day; it was truly inspiring and a powerful reminder of how important collaboration and advocacy are in moving things forward, sharing knowledge, and bringing together patients, researchers, and clinicians to make a real difference in the fight against rare cancers.
