Wey Navigation Walk

On Saturday 27th June, members of the Transcend Sarcoma community gathered at Godalming Station at 9am on a beautifully sunny morning to begin a 20-mile walk along the Wey Navigation in loving memory of the charity's founder, Jack.

The walk carried personal significance. Not only was the Wey Navigation one of Jack's favourite walks, close to his home in Addlestone, but it was also the route he chose to walk after receiving the devastating news that his treatment had come to an end in May 2024. Following seven months of chemotherapy and two months of radiotherapy, Jack told his wife, Rachel, "I want to walk the Wey Navigation."

Despite temperatures exceeding 30°C and widespread rail engineering works, more than 40 supporters travelled to Surrey to retrace Jack's footsteps along the Wey Navigation. Together, they followed the scenic route through 16 locks and picturesque countryside, with the occasional stop at a pub for a well-earned pint - another of Jack's favourite pastimes.

It was fantastic to watch people from different backgrounds and parts of the Transcend community chatting as they walked along the canal paths, many meeting for the first time but united in raising funds and awareness for sarcoma research.
